Know! is committed
to protecting the personal information you choose to share
with us. Below is our privacy assurance and some additional
information about how we gather information about our registered
users, why we gather it, and what we do with it.
Privacy
Assurance
We will not willfully disclose any individually identifiable
information about you to any outside source without your express
consent.
Why do
we ask for personal information about you?
We ask Know! members for basic information so that we can
learn more about our audience. This helps us provide you with
a comprehensive set of actionable news, information, and tools
to assist you in learning, understanding and dealing with
the issues surrounding keeping our kids substance-free. In
order to submit your pledge and become a member of Know!,
we ask you to complete a simple registration form. Your membership
in Know! allows you to receive information that helps you
empower kids to be substance-free in our community. It allows our community partners to order materials
that will enhance your prevention efforts in the community.
In the future,
your membership in Know! may also grant you access to discounts
and special offers from Know! sponsors, as well as give you
the opportunity to connect with other parents, prevention
professionals, educators, businesses and community supporters through future interactive features of the Web site.
What information
will we collect?
The information
we receive depends upon what you do when visiting our site. We automatically collect and store the following information
about your visit:
The Internet
domain (for example, "xcompany.com" if you use a
private Internet access account, or "yourschool.edu"
if you connect from a university's domain) and IP address
(an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned
to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which
you access our Web site;
The type
of browser and operating system used to access our site;
The date
and time you access our site;
The pages
you visit; and
If you
linked to www.HelpThemKnow.com from another Web site, the
address of that Web site.
On certain Web
pages, we may use a certain type of "cookie" - what
is known as a "session" cookie - to help you use
our Web site interactively. Cookies are data a Web site can
send to your browser. Session cookies (also known as session
variables) are kept in your browser's memory and are purged
after your browser session is over. Session cookies are used
to keep track of passwords, preferences, orders, and various
other aspects of a user's "session" within a Web
site. We may use session cookies to improve your interaction
with selected pages on the site. We do not use session cookies
to track or personally identify users. Further, we do not
make use of "persistent cookies" - another type
of cookie that, when used, are stored on your hard drive and
can be used to track Web users over time and across Web sites.
To protect your
privacy, be sure to close your browser completely after you
have finished conducting business with a Web site that uses
cookies. If you are concerned about the potential use of information
gathered from your computer by cookies, you can set your browser
to prompt you before it accepts a cookie. Most Internet browsers
have settings that let you identify and/or reject cookies.
These settings are usually located under "Tools"
on your browser toolbar.
Joining
Know!
While registration
is not required to browse through and access information and
materials from our Web site, we encourage you to submit a
pledge and join Know!. When you do this, we request that you register as a
Know! member. Membership
in Know! requires you to provide us with basic contact information
such as name and e-mail address, and demographic information
such as a ZIP code to help us measure our effectiveness.
If you choose
to submit a comment or question to the "Contact Us"
submission page, we will request your email address only if
you ask for a response. We will store the address only long
enough to respond to your request. Once we have responded,
we will purge your email address from our records.
If you choose
to order Know! materials for use within your business or community
organization, we will ask for basic contact information in
order to get those materials to you.
What information
do we gather?
The only individually
identifiable information that we collect about you is that
which you provide to us in submitting your pledge, your order
form for Know! materials, or through polls and surveys that
you choose to fill out. As stated earlier, this information
will be closely protected and used for internal purposes only.
We will never willfully release your personal information
to any third party.
We also collect
information about aggregate site usage. Statistics that we
gather about unique visits, repeat visits and page views are
all based on IP address, not on your individual activities.
